Music Soft Toys was founded by 2 childhood friends with a passion for music. Being the bass player in a local band, and regularly gigging this inspired the creation of Music Soft Toys.

All jokes aside... we receive A LOT of these messages in our DM's and I wanted to give a perspective (or a slight rant) on this social media begging, from the POV of a small business owner.

I'd like to start by clarifying, we have "collaborated" with some of these accounts in the past.
These collaborations resulted in either 1 single story post, or more often than not, nothing.
Not even a "thank you" in the DM's!!
Our company name is seemingly then posted on a forum, as "someone who responded positively", and we get bombarded with identical messages, some from accounts with <100 followers claiming to be "influencers".
The messages we receive are clearly copy and pasted from some form of parenting forum or website.

So if buying your children a £9.99 toy is too much in this climate, why don't you email the retailers and ask if they're running any discount codes or promotions?
.
Orrr.... rather than try and exploit a small business, have you ever considered supporting one?
- Do you know how much it costs to like a post?
- Do you know how much it costs to tag somebody in the comments?
- Do you know how much it costs to share a post to your story?
Spoiler alert... its Nothing.
You're asking for 30/40/50+ pounds worth of goods, but won't even double tap a photo??

So if you wouldn't sit on the street shaking a cup, or walk in to Starbucks and ask for free coffee in exchange for putting a picture on Instagram, then please reconsider when targeting small local businesses online for free stuff.

We're not hiding millions in profits. We're not using your money to buy holiday homes. TBH, We're not even making an income at this stage.
We've taken a chance to quit our day jobs and do something we're passionate about.

But if you do insist on exploiting small businesses, at least take a second to proof read the message you're copy and pasting before spamming it out to a tonne of accounts and have the decency to follow through on your end of the bargain.
